Our Windows... Most of the windows in our sanctuary were originally placed in the 1912 building located at the corner of Frankford Avenue and Foulkrod Street. They were the work of the H. J. Smith Studios of Philadelphia. When the congregation moved to the present location some changes in the windows were executed because of the Gothic architecture used and because of the desire of the architect and building committee to have the windows depict in chronological order significant events in Jesus life.
When you sit facing the chancel, beginning on the front window on your right and moving back, the windows depict the following scenes in the Life of Jesus: 1. The Birth of Jesus; 2. The Baptism of Jesus; 3. Jesus as a Boy of 12 in the Temple; 4. Jesus and Nicodemus; 5. The Women at the Well. The window directly behind you shows 6. Jesus surrounded by the Disciples, blessing the little children. Over your left shoulder, beginning in the rear and moving toward the front on Dyre Street, we have; 7. Jesus at the Home in Bethany; 8. Jesus as the Good Shepard; 9. Heinrich Hoffman's picture of Jesus Knocking on the Door; 10. Jesus in Gethsemane; 11. The Resurrection scene.
While new windows were added to complete the series of events in the Life of Jesus we were fortunate enough to secure the services of H. J. Smith Studios for this work too, so that no one looking at the windows can tell which were in the original plan and which were done more than a decade later.
